About Me

My name is Alicia Garbutt, I use She/Her pronouns and I was born and raised in Harlem, NYC. I am a recent graduate of SUNY Purchase College with a B.A. in Playwriting and Screenwriting. On my page you will find screenplays, videos, promotional content, and music. All mediums I use to embrace my creative voice. Growing up I was nicknamed "Parrot", because I talked a lot. I needed somewhere to put all those words. Now many years later here I am putting them on pages to be shown on screen. 

Growing up in Harlem, music has always made its way into my life. And now I try to integrate it into my writing. I love telling stories through song just as much as I love telling them for the screen. However, the entertainment industry as a whole is very male-centered. My scripts and lyrics put Black women at the center of the narrative. Not as a mother, a wife, a worker, or a struggle. But as people with lives and joy worth highlighting.
